A couple on their very first trip to Japan tried Japanese food at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), a private-room izakaya in Dogenzaka, Shibuya. Everything they thought about the food is recorded in our video.

Wagyu beef and a real first-time reaction at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

Verdict: A private-room Japanese izakaya a short walk from Shibuya, built to feel like an old Kyoto lane — tiled roofs, lanterns and paper-screen rooms, all indoors.
Our guests had never been to Japan before, and the room itself got a reaction before the food did.
Fresh sashimi, a grilled fish collar and salmon ochazuke follow.
Best for couples and small groups who want to talk without a crowded dining room around them.
Budget roughly ¥5,000–¥5,999 per person for dinner, and far less at lunch.

Best for Couples, small groups, anyone who wants a private room rather than a shared floor
Budget (per person) Dinner ¥5,000–¥5,999 / Lunch ¥1,000–¥1,999 (rough guide only)

About this review

We are a Japanese team that takes guests from overseas to Japanese restaurants and films the meal (YouTube: Amazing Japanese Food!). Impressions are our guests’ real, unedited reactions. This visit: a couple originally from Belarus, now living in Rome — in Japan for the first time. They arrived having eaten sushi and ramen abroad, but never wagyu and never a grilled fish collar. Every quote in this review is taken word-for-word from the video.

🥇 Our pick: the giant shrimp with mayonnaise

大海老マヨネーズ和え — giant shrimp with mayonnaise at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

In the video, around 15:50

It arrives as one enormous shrimp under a mayonnaise sauce, and it is the dish both guests named again at the end of the meal.

“The meat is very juicy and Yeah. No, it’s like king of the shrimps.”

What to order at 天空の月 渋谷

Umeshu — plum wine(梅酒)

The first toast of the night (around 3:06 in the video)

Neither guest had tried plum wine before.

Suggested as the opening drink, it went down in one sip.

Real reaction — plum wine

In the video, around 3:15

“So nice. So refreshing. And also it’s like you’re drinking a fruit.”
“Yeah. Alcohol. But you don’t taste alcohol at all. It’s like a juice.”
💡 Ordering tip: They switched to a lemon sour later in the meal and liked that too.
“It’s sparkling and refreshing,” one of them said — a good second round if the plum wine is too sweet for you.

Godofu — the otoshi appetizer(お通しのごどうふ)

お通しのごどうふ godofu appetizer at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

In the video, around 3:56

The meal opens with godofu — a very smooth tofu — topped with marinated mushrooms and a sauce.

Both guests said tofu is not commonly eaten where they come from.

Real reaction — godofu

In the video, around 4:14

“So soft inside and crunchy little bit. Wow.”
“But inside it’s like I would say a little bit sweet even.”

Madai sashimi — sea bream(真鯛のお造り)

真鯛のお造り sea bream sashimi at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

In the video, around 5:34

Our host introduced the fish as madai — sea bream — before the first piece.

The plating got a reaction before anyone had eaten anything.

Real reaction — sea bream sashimi

In the video, around 5:58

“It’s so soft. It’s really delicious.”
“But uh it’s very fresh, you know, because you know in Japan surrounded by sea.”

Wagyu beef(和牛)

和牛 wagyu beef at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

Their first wagyu, sliced and served medium (around 8:00 in the video)

This was the first wagyu of their lives.

They explained they had wanted to try it for years but had never done it at home, where it appears only on expensive restaurant menus.

Real reaction — wagyu beef

In the video, around 8:12

“It gives a really nice taste to the meat. Yeah, it’s juicy.”
“like when we came here we wanted to try and this is perfect”

Kanpachi kamayaki — grilled amberjack collar(カンパチのかま焼き)

カンパチのかま焼き grilled amberjack collar at 天空の月 渋谷 (Tenku no Tsuki Shibuya), Tokyo

In the video, around 12:44

Our host explained how to eat it: squeeze the lemon over the top, watch for the bones, and take it with the grated daikon on the side.

It was the dish that produced the longest run of reactions in the whole meal.

Both of them mentioned it again in the closing minutes.

Real reaction — grilled amberjack collar

In the video, around 13:18

“So delicious. So delicious.”
“It’s just melting in your mouth like like a nice like true gelato.”
“Wow. That is so good. It’s so good. And this very rich. Put it on my food list.”
💡 Ordering tip: Fish is not an everyday food where our guests come from — one of them pointed out that Belarus has no sea or ocean, so fish on the table is “like celebration”.
If you only eat fish occasionally, this is the dish to spend it on.

Giant shrimp with mayonnaise(大海老マヨネーズ和え)

“Great sauce and so big shrimp. You can see it here. It’s so big.”
